Welcome to my website.

I am an experienced teacher of Brass and classroom music with over twenty years experience in the UK, and internationally.
I have taught across all age ranges and ability levels in classes, groups and individual lessons. I play the piano. I have directed many school ensembles and participate fully in multi-disciplinary performances and events.

In my experience, music plays a vital role in a young persons' development. Learning to play a musical instrument and having an appreciation for music in general equips the student with many life skills. Music can help with cognitive skills, confidence, reading and co-ordination whilst learning to practise an instrument is a skill in itself. It is vital for the pupil to learn time management, to recognise patterns, rules and formulae. Also, the student can learn about their own culture and history.

Music equips the student with a sense of worth within the school community. When the school has good musicians and ensembles, music can help with whole-school cohesion and lifts school kudos. Schools need extra-curricular activities such as sports and music to increase their competitiveness as these are priorities for many prospective parents.
Music significantly contributes to a school's public relations. I would like to hope that any school that may be interested in me working with them would have a management system that appreciates the value of music, supports the idea of pupils needing school time to attend lessons and is committed to supporting the importance of music in a young person's learning experience.
